Before the Patriots and Panthers got underway, not too far away, the Bruins and Hurricanes met up at PNC Arena in Raleigh.
The B’s got ahead early thanks to a PP goal from Riley Smith at 2:31 into the first. Seidenberg added one later at 10:24 to extend it to a 2-0 lead.
But then the Bruin’s got a little careless and let Carolina get one back with just under 5 seconds left in the first. The puck slowly slid past Rask’s blocker side as he was out of position. As stated on NESN, 24% of all Bruins goal allowed have come within the final 2 minutes of a period (not a good trend), especially considering the Bruins went up 2-0 on Ottawa in the previous game and lost 4-2.
The second period was scoreless and then in the third Boychuck beat Cam Ward about halfway through the period at 10:29. Looch got an empty netter to cap off a pretty solid effort by the black and gold.
Carolina was 4-0-1 in their previous 5 home games, last night being their first home loss in regulation since November 1st against Tampa Bay. Also, the Bruins killed off 4 penalties and are now ranked second in the league on the penalty kill (87.5%) and are first in Goals Against at 1.8.
The Bruins go to MSG tonight to take on the Rangers who are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Kings.
