2004 Red Sox Being Honored At Fenway Tonight

ESPN Boston – The “Idiots” will be back at Fenway Park tonight.

The 2004 championship team that ended 86 years of heartache in New England a decade ago will be honored tonight prior to the Red Sox taking on the Braves to begin a homestand.

Among the alums who are expected to be in attendance are David Ortiz (of course), Pedro Martinez, Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon, Derek Lowe, Kevin Millar, Jason Varitek, Trot Nixon, Orlando Cabrera, Keith Foulke and Gabe Kapler.

This is just what all us Red Sox fans need. The team finally got out of a 10 game losing streak (and all it took was facing an NL team). Now, they get to see their heroes from 2004 back at Fenway. Hard to believe that will be 10 years ago this fall. Time flies.

While the World Series victory that year was the first in 86 years, nothing will top the historic comeback in the ALCS against the Yankees. Ask anyone, they will tell you that Game 4,5,6, and 7 were more memorable than the World Series vs the Cardinals (honestly, I don’t remember too much aside from the final pitch).

Here’s a look at the pivotal moment from that series, “The Steal”.
