There’s really no other way to say it. Clayton Kershaw can’t do diddly poo in the playoffs. Guy is practically un-hittable in the regular season, but when it’s October and the season is on the line, he can’t get it done.
Something with the 7th innings are his kryptonite this year.Last night it was the 3 run homer he gave up to Matt Adams that gave the Cards a 1 run lead.
In the first game, he was charged for 8 runs in the 7th as the Cardinals went on to win another 1 run game.
Kershaw is now 1-4 in the post season with 4 straight losses.
Until the Dodgers with Kershaw make and win a World Series, there will always be this post season cloud hanging over his head. Can you be the best pitcher if you can’t do it in the post season?
Josh Beckett just retired. Here’s a guy who just took over in 2007. Absolutely dominated the Indians and Rockies that year.
Here’s his stat line from 2007.
ALDS vs the Angels – 1 Game, CG shutout, 8 Ks. 0 ERA
ALCS vs Indians – 2 Games, 14 innings, 18 K’s, 1.93 ERA (MVP of ALCS)
WS vs Rockies – 1 Game, 7 innings, 9 KS, 1.29 ERA
That regular season he was 20-7 with a 3.27 ERA and 194 Ks. That’s a great season.
Kershaw this year was 21-3, 1.77 ERA and 239 Ks. That is DOMINANT, but the post season is quite a different story.
He is 1-5 with a 5.12 ERA in his post season career.
Until he gets over that hump, if he does, he will be the Peyton Manning of the MLB. Set the world on fire in the regular season, come up short in the playoffs.
